Cyane (2026)
for solo piano
Duration: ca. 1.5′
PROGRAM NOTE:
Ovid’s Metamorphoses describes Cyane as a freshwater nymph and a companion of the goddess Proserpina. Upon Proserpina’s abduction by Pluto, Cyane is so overcome with grief that she melts away in her tears and becomes a spring. When Proserpina's mother, Ceres, comes across this spring in search for her daughter, Cyane is unable to tell the goddess what she witnessed. Cyane (2026) suggests the gentle rippling of this body of water, now calm despite its tragic history.
